Why coco and RO water need it
Coco coir holds calcium and magnesium and gives them up slowly, and reverse osmosis water carries none. Heavy LED lighting raises demand further. A cal-mag supplement prevents the spotting and yellowing between veins that signal a shortfall.
Choosing a form
Cal-mag liquids with iron cover the three most common deficiencies in one bottle. Magnesium sulfate, Epsom salt, corrects magnesium alone and is the economical bulk choice. Calcium boosters and foliar calcium target flower and fruit quality late in the cycle.
Cal-Mag & Magnesium Supplements FAQ
When do I need cal-mag?
Whenever growing in coco, using RO or soft water, or when leaves show spotting and interveinal yellowing.
Can I add cal-mag with base nutrients?
Add it to the water before the base nutrient. Mixing it into concentrated phosphorus causes precipitation.
Is Epsom salt the same as cal-mag?
No. Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate only. Use it when magnesium is the only shortfall.
