The harvest workflow
A smooth harvest is a line of small steps, and a bottleneck at any one of them backs up the whole room.
- Cut and buck: Trimming Scissors & Shears take the plant down, and Buckers & Bud Sorters strip flowers from the stem in a fraction of the time it takes by hand.
- Trim: Bud Trimmers range from hand powered bowl trimmers for a few plants to tumble machines that replace a full trim crew. Trimmer Parts & Blades keep them cutting clean.
- Dry: Drying Racks hold flower in a single layer with air on every side, which is what makes a slow, even dry possible.
- Store: Vacuum Sealers & Bags, Turkey Bags & Liners and Smell Proof Bags protect the finished product from air, moisture, light and odor loss.
Wet trim or dry trim
Wet trimming happens right after harvest, while leaves stand away from the flower. It is faster, takes less drying space and suits humid climates where a whole plant dry risks mold. Dry trimming happens after the dry, which slows moisture loss and many growers prefer for the finished result. Hybrid machines handle both, so the choice can change with the season.
Storing the harvest
Air, light, heat and moisture swings degrade stored flower. Cure in a sealed container that can be opened to release moisture, then move to vacuum sealed or heat sealed bags for long term storage and transport.
Harvest, Trimming & Storage Supplies FAQ
Is machine trimming as good as hand trimming?
Modern tumble and bowl trimmers produce a close, consistent trim at many times the speed of hand work. Many operations machine trim first and finish by hand.
How long should flower dry?
Typically 7 to 14 days in a dark room around 60 degrees Fahrenheit and 55 to 60 percent humidity, until small stems snap instead of bending.
What are turkey bags used for?
Oven bags made of heat resistant nylon hold odor well and do not stick to resin, which makes them a standard for bulk storage and transport.
Do I need a bucking machine?
Once you harvest more than a few pounds at a time, bucking is usually the slowest manual step. A bucker removes flowers from stems many times faster than hand stripping.
How should trimming scissors be maintained?
Wipe the blades with alcohol or scissor cleaner during use and oil the pivot at the end of the day. Resin buildup is what dulls the cut.
