Flats
The 10 by 20 flat is the base of every propagation setup. Trays without drain holes hold water for bottom feeding, and trays with holes drain into a flat below. Double thick and extreme duty trays survive years of stacking and washing, and cut kit trays ship flat.
Inserts and cell trays
Cell plug trays give each seed its own cell, from large cells for a few plants per flat up to 128 for high counts. Deep and extra deep cells suit taproots. Mesh web trays let air reach the base of plugs and blocks. Break apart trays split into strips, and carrier trays hold square pots in a flat for easy moving.
Propagation Trays & Seedling Trays FAQ
Drain holes or no drain holes?
No holes for bottom watering and for holding a cell insert. Holes when the tray sits over another flat and needs to drain.
How many cells do I need?
Fewer, larger cells hold seedlings longer before transplant. More cells fit more plants per flat but need transplanting sooner.
Are these trays reusable?
Yes. Wash and sanitize between crops. Heavier trays last many seasons.
