Dehumidifiers
Plants transpire most of the water they take up, and that water has to be removed from the air, especially late in flower when humidity drives mold. Dehumidifiers are rated in pints per day. Portable units on casters move between rooms, and ceiling mount units free up floor space and drain by gravity. Size to the amount of water going into the room each day, not the square footage.
Humidifiers and coolers
Ultrasonic humidifiers add a fine cool mist for clones, seedlings and early veg, where higher humidity reduces stress. An evaporative cooler lowers air temperature by evaporating water, which works best in dry climates and adds humidity at the same time.
Dehumidifiers & Humidifiers FAQ
How do I size a dehumidifier for a grow room?
Start with the gallons of water you feed per day. Nearly all of it ends up in the air, and one gallon equals 8 pints, so add up the pints and choose a unit or units rated above that.
What humidity should I run?
Roughly 65 to 75 percent for clones, 55 to 70 for veg and 40 to 55 for flower, lower in the final weeks.
Do evaporative coolers work in humid climates?
Poorly. They rely on dry air to evaporate water, so they suit arid regions and well ventilated greenhouses.
