Gauge and voltage
Cord gauge sets how much current a cord carries safely: a lower gauge number means thicker wire. Long runs and high wattage fixtures need heavier cord. 240V cords use a different plug from 120V, so check the voltage of the ballast and the outlet before ordering.
Reflector and ballast cords
Remote ballast setups connect the ballast to the reflector with a lamp cord. Extensions in several lengths let the ballast sit outside the room to keep its heat out. Pigtail adapters convert between the common reflector and ballast connector styles so parts from different systems work together.
Grow Light Power Cords & Extension Cords FAQ
What gauge cord do I need for a 1000W light?
Use a heavy gauge cord rated for the amp draw of the fixture at your voltage, and step up in gauge for long runs.
Can I use a household extension cord?
No. Light duty household cords are not rated for continuous high wattage loads and can overheat.
What is a pigtail adapter?
A short adapter that joins two different lamp cord connector types, so a reflector from one system can plug into a ballast from another.
