Air cooled or open
An air cooled reflector seals the lamp behind glass and pulls lamp heat out through ducting, which lets the fixture hang closer to the canopy in warm rooms. An open reflector has no glass, so nothing blocks the light, and relies on room ventilation to handle heat. Open double ended reflectors are the usual choice for DE lamps, which are designed to run without forced air across the lamp.
Shapes and footprint
Wing reflectors spread light wide and can be adjusted to change the footprint. Large hoods cover a 4 by 4 foot area or more from a single lamp. Compact cube and tube reflectors suit tight spaces and vertical setups. Highly reflective aluminum inserts make the difference in how evenly a reflector lights the edges.
Grow Light Reflectors & Hoods FAQ
Do I need an air cooled reflector?
In a small or warm room, yes. Removing lamp heat at the source lowers room temperature and lets the light hang closer.
What size ducting fits an air cooled hood?
6 inch or 8 inch, listed in the product name. Match it to your inline fan.
Can a single ended lamp go in a DE reflector?
No. The sockets are different, so choose the reflector that matches the lamp type.
