Fan types
Standard inline fans are the economical workhorse for tents and small rooms. EC (electronically commutated) motor fans use less power for the same airflow, run quieter and can be slowed across their full range without humming or overheating. Fans with an integrated silencer cut duct noise at the source, and industrial models are built for continuous duty in larger rooms.
Reading the specs
CFM is the airflow with nothing attached. Static pressure, listed in pascals, shows how well a fan holds that airflow against resistance from a carbon filter and ducting. For filtered exhaust, a fan with higher pressure will outperform a higher CFM fan with low pressure.
Inline Duct Fans FAQ
What is an EC inline fan?
A fan with an electronically commutated motor. It is more efficient, quieter and fully speed controllable compared with a standard AC motor.
Can I use a speed controller on any inline fan?
Most AC fans work with a variable speed controller. EC fans use their own controller, so check the fan before pairing them.
What size fan matches my carbon filter?
Match the duct diameter, and choose a filter rated at or above the CFM of the fan.
