Relay lighting controllers
A lighting controller is the safe way to run multiple high wattage ballasts. It takes power directly from the panel, spreads the load across heavy duty relays and switches every outlet at once from a 120V trigger cable plugged into a timer. Models are available for 4, 8 and 16 lights on 120V or 240V.
Ballast controllers and timers
A ballast controller connects to compatible fixtures by signal cable and sets dimming, sunrise and sunset and high temperature shutdown for the whole room. Digital timers set on and off times to the minute, and mechanical timers are the simple, reliable option with pin settings. Both come in 120V and 240V and in single and dual outlet.
Lighting Controllers & Timers FAQ
Why not plug lights straight into a timer?
A standard timer is rated for a limited load. Several 1000W ballasts will exceed it. A relay controller carries the load and uses the timer only as a trigger.
Digital or mechanical timer?
Digital timers are more precise. Mechanical timers are simple and keep working through power flickers.
Can one controller run 120V and 240V?
Universal plug models accept either, but every ballast on the controller must match the supply voltage.
