Choosing a meter
A pH pen and an EC pen cover most rooms. Combo pens read pH, EC, TDS and temperature from one probe. Waterproof and professional series meters add replaceable electrodes and better temperature compensation for daily use. Bench and portable meters suit labs and large operations.
Calibration and care
pH electrodes drift and need calibrating against 4.0 and 7.0 buffer solutions every week or two, and storing in storage solution, never in plain water. EC meters calibrate against a 1413 microsiemens or 1000 ppm standard. Replacement electrodes restore a meter that no longer calibrates.
pH & EC Meters & Calibration Solutions FAQ
How often should I calibrate a pH meter?
Every one to two weeks with regular use, and whenever a reading looks wrong.
What is the difference between EC and TDS?
EC measures conductivity directly. TDS converts it to parts per million with a factor. Both track nutrient strength.
Why does my pH probe read slowly?
The electrode is drying out or coated. Clean it, store it in storage solution and replace it if calibration no longer holds.
