Injection molded or thermoformed
Injection molded pots have thick, rigid walls and a reinforced rim, so they hold their shape when carried full and stand up to years of washing and reuse. Thermoformed pots are formed from a single sheet of plastic, which makes them light, durable for their weight and the cost effective choice when you are filling hundreds at a time. Both have drainage holes in the base. Blow molded 45 and 65 gallon pots cover the largest plants.
Shapes
Squat pots are wider than they are tall, which gives a stable base for top heavy plants and suits shallow rooting crops. Tall pots give taproots more depth. Square pots from 3.25 inch to 5.5 inch pack tightly into trays for propagation and early veg, and round pots are sold by the case. Heavy duty injection pots with a built in elevator keep the base of the pot above standing runoff.
Plastic Nursery Pots FAQ
What is a thermoformed pot?
A pot formed from a single heated sheet of plastic. It is lighter and less expensive than an injection molded pot, and a common choice for nurseries and large grows.
What does squat mean?
A squat pot is shorter and wider than a standard pot of the same volume, which makes it more stable and easier to fit under lights.
Can plastic pots be reused?
Yes. Injection molded pots in particular are made to be washed, sanitized and reused for many cycles.
