Which film
Mylar is the most reflective option and comes plain or laminated onto white or black backing for strength. Diamond foil has an embossed pattern that diffuses light evenly and avoids hot spots, and its blackout backing blocks light completely. Black and white poly film is the tough, washable choice: white side in for reflection, black side out to block light, and it doubles as a floor liner and room divider.
Thickness and heat
Thicker film hangs flatter and lasts longer. Poly film is sold by mil thickness and by rated life. Thermal IR blocker reflects infrared heat as well as light, which helps hold stable temperatures and insulate a room.
Reflective Films FAQ
Which side of black and white film faces the plants?
The white side. It reflects light back to the canopy while the black side blocks light from passing through.
Is mylar better than white film?
Mylar reflects slightly more light, but it creases and tears more easily. White poly is more durable and easier to clean.
How do I hang reflective film?
Keep it flat and tight. Wrinkles scatter light unevenly, so staple or tape it to a smooth surface.
